Meet Bett

About the Author

Bett “Boll” aka Bett Bollhoefer is a Florida-born author, technologist, and improv enthusiast writing hopeful, fiercely human young adult science fiction.

Raised in Key West as the oldest of nine homeschooled children, Bett spent her childhood running wild, building forts, digging pools, devouring Narnia and The Hobbit, writing plays at age eight, and watching every sci-fi story she could find. She wrote her first novels as a teenager and never stopped.

She earned a Computer Science degree from the University of South Florida and spent nearly two decades in technology—launching websites, building mobile experiences, scaling SaaS platforms, pioneering Industrial Internet of Things, and stepping into the world of AI. In 2021, a health scare awakened her to the importance of embodied living. She earned her yoga teacher certification and now teaches yoga several times a week.

Bett’s work sits at the intersection of technology, human agency, and creative presence. She believes humanity must evolve to meet the AI era—not by surrendering our attention and minds to machines, but by reclaiming them. She spoke at ICON 2024 on the Intentional Use of Technology, urging us to own our minds and use tools to solve problems rather than let them run the show.

Since discovering improv in 2007, Bett has seen firsthand how the simple practice of “Yes, And” builds presence, resilience, and creative courage. These tools form the beating heart of her debut novel, The Cult of Yes And, which explores presence, reality-checking, and the quiet power of choosing to add something better to the world we’re given.

Today she runs workshops that blend improv exercises, yoga, and meditation to help people reconnect with their inner wisdom and reclaim agency over their minds and attention. When she’s not writing or teaching, you’ll find her with her family, deep in a good book, or dreaming up the next story that might help young readers stay awake and alive in whatever future arrives.
